Programme Manager, Finland
Kaisa-Maria, “Kaisis”, has a nursing degree from the Helsinki University of Applied Sciences. She has 16 years of experience from the Child Welfare Office of Helsinki, where she worked as a head nurse for the last 7 years before transferring to the private sector. Since 2011, Kaisis has been working in Mehiläinen Helsinki as Service Manager. She enjoys working with customers and being involved in a variety of tasks every day. On her free time, Kaisis likes cooking and baking, spending time at her countryside cottage, as well as doing sports activities with her husband and two children.
Tristan is an accredited strength and conditioning coach, who is currently completing a Master’s in Strength and Conditioning at St. Mary's University in London. In 2009, Tristan began work as a self-employed fitness coach working with young athletes in tennis, rugby and soccer and overseeing the progression of prospective academy-level athletes. In 2011 he joined Reading Football Club where he was responsible for maintaining and developing the fitness and well-being of the senior players and was part of a league-winning campaign and promotion to the Premier League in his first season with the club. In 2015 Tristan joined Hintsa Performance and now works full time as a performance coach in Formula 1.
Medical & Sports Performance Director
As the Medical and Sports Performance Director for Hintsa Performance, Luke co-ordinates medical and performance programs for F1 drivers across all of the leading teams, with a special emphasis on the development of rookie and junior drivers. Luke and his team are also adapting the successful programs that Hintsa Performance has employed in F1 to other elite sports. Luke has led the delivery of trauma and rescue services at numerous international motorsport events. His concern for human wellbeing grows from nearly two decades of broad personal experience delivering critical care medicine from remote outback Australia and the poorest parts of Africa to London’s most exclusive private clinics.
Nicolas is a strength and conditioning coach with almost 15 years of experience from working with professional and Olympic athletes across a variety of different sports. He has a double Master’s Degree in Professional Coaching from both Sports Science and Sports Management. During his career, Nicolas has helped three different national teams, in alpine skiing, volleyball and sprint kayaking, to prepare for the Olympics, starting with the Beijing Games in 2008. He has also worked with many professional athletes in sports such as rugby, tennis and golf. In addition to working with Hintsa’s clients, he feels passionate about educating parents and children about the development of movement skills, sports injury recovery and long-term sporting career planning.
Paula Clayton has worked as a senior performance therapist for the English Institute of Sport and British Athletics and travelled extensively to Olympic Games, Commonwealth Games, World and European Championships with the country’s track and field medical team. She has also worked in Premiership and Championship football, taught on two sports therapy degree programmes, written a number of articles, is a published author, has an MSc in Physiotherapy and an MSc in Sports Injury Management. Paula also delivers soft tissue master-classes to senior physiotherapists and soft tissue therapists nationally and internationally.
Member of Hintsa Science Team
Adam is an Australian sports physiotherapist with a passion for proactive and performance health care. Working with Dr Hintsa since 2006, Adam was the initial performance coach for Lewis Hamilton, multiple Formula 1 World Champion. Following his years in Formula 1, Adam was integral in establishing the Hintsa Performance clinic in Geneva, Switzerland. In 2014, Adam decided to further follow in the footsteps of Dr Hintsa, and thus returned with his young family to his native Australia to complete his medical studies. Adam is currently a member of the Hintsa Science Team and a partner of the company.
Junior Performance Coach
Jack joined Hintsa Performance in 2016 as a Jr. Performance Coach for a year long internship. He graduated from Bournemouth University with BSc (Hons) in Sport Psychology and Coaching Sciences and is an accredited Strength and Conditioning Coach from the UKSCA. His experience lies in Strength and Conditioning with football and youth athletes in schools having worked for Oxford United Football Club, Southampton Football Club, AFC Bournemouth and Radley College.
Angela has been working in high performance sport for over 15 years. She is a physiotherapist and an expert in understanding how the body works and how to achieve optimal body performance. Angela has worked with the British Olympic team, primarily with UK Athletics and the British triathlon team. In New Zealand she worked with High Performance Sport NZ and the New Zealand Academy of Sport to develop the performance support services for New Zealand Olympic athletes. At Hintsa Performance Angela is the director of biomechanics and a performance coach. She works closely with Formula 1 drivers, corporate and individual clients to maximise their potential in terms of wellbeing and optimal performance.
Lee is an accredited strength and conditioning coach from the UK Strength and Conditioning Association. He has both a BSc and MSc in Sport and Exercise Science, and recently completed a postgraduate certificate in strength and conditioning. He has worked with a number of individual and team athletes, including world ranked tennis players, top golfers as well as Premierships Football and Rugby Clubs.
Dean is a strength and conditioning coach and applied sports scientist with a proven track record of achieving excellence within a wide variety of team and individual sports. He has worked with national and international level athletes from sports including Rugby Union, Rugby League, Skiing, Squash, Fencing and Motor sport. In 2014, Dean was awarded as the Strength & Conditioning Coach of the Year by the United Kingdom Strength & Conditioning Association.
Chief Medical Officer, Switzerland
Eric is a medical doctor with vast experience in acute and in preventive medicine, as well as epidemiology. He is the Medical Director of Hirslanden Clinic La Colline in Geneva. Eric completed his studies at the University of Geneva and obtained a specialty in internal medicine and intensive care medicine. He then studied clinical research and epidemiology at the University of Washington, after which he worked several years in the University Hospital of Geneva as the adjunct of the head in the Internal Medicine Department. In 2011, he started a position as Medical Director at Clinic La Colline in and opened an emergency center, an internal medicine unit and an international check-up and preventive medicine service. In 2014, he joined the Hintsa Science Board.
Jon is a skilled and trusted physiotherapist, with more than 10 years of experience working in the National Health Service and in private clinics in the UK. He has successfully delivered treatment and development programmes for a wide range of clients, from competitive athletes to individuals with chronic conditions. Keen to use a more holistic approach to improving performance, Jon established his own physiotherapy business in the UK in 2009, before moving to France in 2016 to pursue his longer term ambitions. Alongside this wealth of professional experience, Jon has a distinct ability to put people at ease and is deeply committed to supporting others to identify their goals and fulfill their potential.
Junior Performance Coach
Jaakko is a performance coach and a sport scientist with a background in coaching athletes, mainly football players, as well as in coaching general population clients. What drives him in everyday life is his desire to help people feel, move and perform better. His proactive and holistic thinking makes Hintsa Performance an ideal environment for him in helping people to reach their potential. He has an undergraduate degree in Biology of Physical Activity from the University of Jyväskylä and is currently completing his Masters degree in Science of Sports Coaching and Fitness Testing in the same institution.
Senior Consultant in Hintsa Sports Medicine, MD
Petri is a medical doctor and a specialist in sports and exercise medicine. He graduated from Helsinki University in 1991. At the moment he is dividing his time between Hintsa Performance and a private sport clinic in Helsinki. Petri has worked with top athletes for over 20 years and held the position of a team doctor for several top sport teams in Finland. He has also been a team doctor for Finnish National Teams in ice-hockey, volleyball, aerobics, figure skating and golf. He is a doctor for Jarkko Nieminen Tennis Academy and a consultative doctor for the Finnish National Ballet. He has been working with Hintsa Performance for several years, taking care of both top athletes and corporate clients, and working at F1 tracksite.

James is a sports scientist and performance coach with a passion for helping people use science and technology to experience more of their potential in sport and business. James applies his curiosity and voracious appetite for knowledge in his role as Hintsa's Head of Science and Innovation, where he searches for fresh perspectives and new approaches to enhance the performance of people, products and projects.
Head of Services
Annastiina has witnessed the growth of Hintsa Performance over the past decade. She’s thrilled to rejoin the firm after several years in top management consulting. Prior to her return she held the position of Engagement Manager at McKinsey & Company. Over the years, Annastiina has gotten to closely observe the challenges faced by top executives and personally experience the pressure related to leading teams in a global setting. Annastiina believes a holistic view on individual wellbeing is also the fundamental building block for better organisational health and performance.
Heikki has a Master´s degree in Sport Science, majoring in Exercise Physiology. Heikki began his career as a personal trainer and group exercise instructor. After a couple of years he was promoted to Head of Trainers and Instructors in a major gym in Jyväskylä Finland. Heikki had a career in ice hockey in the highest junior level and 2nd highest adult level in Finland. In 2011, he focused on coaching junior racing drivers and leading a fitness centre. In 2012 and 2013 his focus was solely in coaching F1 driver Sebastian Vettel, whom he helped to win two world championship titles. Currently, Heikki is the Coaching Director for Hintsa Performance in Finland, focusing on sports and corporate clients. Seeking solutions to help people to find their potential is Heikki´s mission, and the Hintsa holistic philosophy provides an ideal framework for this.
Richard joined Hintsa Performance as a Performance Coach in 2015. He is experienced in delivering world-class strength and conditioning services to various high performance sports including, China Judo, GB Diving, GB Boxing, Premier League Football and Formula 1. Richard has done successful work in rehabilitating several Olympic-level athletes back from injuries. Richard is passionate about human performance, specifically strength, power and ACL rehabilitation.
Jari has always had a passion for sports, coaching and overall wellbeing. He has longstanding working and coaching relationships with athletes and business leaders. Jari has a Master’s degree in Business Sciences and degrees in Sports massage and Osteopathy. He is actively practising athletics and has Finnish Masters Championship in decathlon. Jari joined Hintsa Performance in 2016.
Head of Talent and HR Development
Mari is an HR professional with over ten years of experience in talent and leadership development in professional services. She joined Hintsa Performance in 2016 and is responsible for recruitment, HR and professional development. She holds Master's Degrees in Social Psychology and Economics & Business Administration, and is passionate about healthy lifestyle. As a hobby she's currently completing a Personal Trainer degree and likes to spend her free time doing CrossFit.
Kaisa´s background is closely tied to varied global corporate and public office environments from the field of international medical response to the politics of the UK Foreign Office. For over ten years, Kaisa has managed the affairs and operations of top level executives, and considers herself dedicated to the smooth running of daily activities. Kaisa obtained her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology from University of London and continues to be intrigued by psychology, people´s behaviour and overall holistic wellbeing. She is a lover of nature and an avid supporter of life-long learning. Kaisa has been with Hintsa Performance since the start of 2013.
Antti is a performance coach and sport scientist who is passionate about helping people live better lives and reach their goals. Antti joined Hintsa Performance in 2011 and has been working as a full-time coach in Formula 1 for the whole time. He started with Sebastien Buemi and Jean-Eric Vergne and has now been coaching Sebastian Vettel since 2014. Antti has a Bachelor in Sport Science and a Master in Sport Management, both from Loughborough University. Outside work Antti enjoys hiking and mountain biking on the Swiss peaks.
Science & Development Director, Helsinki
Matti has worked with Hintsa Performance since 2013. His main responsibilities involve leading the science teams and content development, coordinating specialist collaboration and doing performance coaching. Matti has a Master of Science in Sports Administration from the University of Jyväskylä and a Bachelor of Science in Sports Science with Management from the University of Loughborough. Prior to working with Hintsa Performance Matti worked for over 8 years with Fida International in sport and development related projects in Tanzania, Maldives and Laos.
Programme Manager, Switzerland
Charlotta is a registered nurse with extensive experience in orthopaedic nursing and preventive health care. She has a passion for health and wellbeing, in particular the individual healing process. Charlotta works to create an integrative and holistic environment where individuals are active participants in managing their own health. As Programme Manager she coordinates all aspects of the Hintsa programme and supports the diverse team of professionals in delivering Hintsa Performance’s customised services.
Chief Medical Officer, Finland
Pippa Laukka is one of the leading sports doctors in Finland. Pippa has been working with many of the best athletes in Finland, e.g. the Finnish women's national soccer team, as well as with many well-known business professionals and other individuals. Pippa’s approach is holistic, proactive and scientific. In addition to a doctoral degree in medicine, Pippa has an executive MBA qualification. She has treated professional and amateur athletes for well over 20 years. Pippa is also known as a keen athlete herself, always up for any kind of sweating on the tennis field and marathon track. Pippa’s debut book Sportsdoctor was published in April 2016, her next book The Longevity book for women will be published in the spring of 2017.
Junior Performance Coach
Viivi is an experienced personal trainer and group instructor that has been working at private health and fitness clubs for the past 10 years. In her work she wants to help her clients understand the importance of a holistically healthy body. Viivi has a background in many different sports, but water polo has been the most important one for her. She played actively for almost ten years on the National level, while sharing her learnings as a coach for the juniors. In addition to a degree as a sports instructor Viivi has also been studying nutrition.
Jarno has always been fascinated by sports, wellbeing and coaching. He started his coaching career at the age of 14 – and never stopped. Before joining Hintsa Performance in 2014, Jarno headed Trainer Lab, which was one of the first companies in Finland to get the authorisation for educating personal trainers. Jarno holds a Master’s degree in Sports Science from the University of Jyväskylä, Finland.
Member of Hintsa Science Board, PhD, Associate Professor of Medicine
Steve is an Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School, a Neuroscientist in the Division of Sleep and Circadian Disorders at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston, USA, and a Professor in the School of Psychological Sciences, Monash University, Australia. He has been studying sleep and circadian rhythms for more than 20 years and works to understand how to apply this work to improve alertness, performance and health. These principles are incorporated into the Hintsa Performance system to proactively manage sleep and recovery for those traveling the world or simply traversing the day to ensure optimal alertness and performance no matter what the challenge.
Suzy first became interested in the mind, body, performance connection as a 12-year-old international tennis player. Swapping small yellow balls for big white mountains, she pursued her passions for wellbeing and adventure sports with an MSc. in Positive Psychology, and leading ski-mountaineering expeditions all over the World. As a wellbeing and performance psychologist, her particular interests are risk, stress, attention focussing and meaning. She supports, surprises and inspires people whilst coaching them to their better life and performance.
Miriam is a performance coach with a particular expertise in women’s health and fitness, and post pregnancy return to sport and activity. Her experience extends to corporate clients as well as sports clients. In addition, she has taught primary and secondary Physical Education in schools and gained an understanding of the physical development of children and teenagers. Miriam is passionate about holistic health and wellbeing. She thrives on encouraging others to achieve their goals and bringing practical advice to help others maintain a healthy work-life balance including one’s family and children. Miriam is the author of Amazon best-selling book 'The Happy Healthy Mom, Recovery, well-being and weight loss after childbirth' (2013).
Coaching & Sports Science Director
Pete is a strength and conditioning coach with 15 years’ experience of working with professional and Olympic athletes across a number of different sports. His expertise lies in strength, power and speed development with the world’s best performers, and long-term development with young athletes. During his career, Pete has worked with the Football Association, the England and Wales Cricket Board, UK Athletics, British Swimming and British Triathlon, to name a few. Pete joined Hintsa Performance in 2015 as a Coaching & Sports Science Director. He has a BSc (Hons) in physics and sports science, and is doing a PhD in sports biomechanics. He is currently the chairman of the Board of Directors for the UK Strength & Conditioning Association (UKSCA).
Tarja returned to her coaching roots by joining Hintsa Performance in 2015, after a decade as an entrepreneur in marketing and corporate culture development. Tarja believes that you need passion, determination and awareness to build the self-confidence that is required to perform as a top athlete or executive. She also firmly believes that physical activity and the right nutrition has a great impact on performance and overall wellbeing. Tarja is a former professional athlete with 24 speed skiing World Cup race wins, two overall World Cup victories and an Olympic Gold medal in speed skiing from Albertville 1992.
Fergus is an applied interdisciplinary sport scientist with a specialty in motorsport and human performance. He has experience across most forms of car racing, supporting drivers and teams from club level karting through to Formula 1, and helping them achieve their goals. A specialty in performance psychology and mental skills training underpins Fergus’ work, with a particular interest in combining mental and physical skills training in simulated environments. Fergus has a solid academic background to support his work alongside motor sport based research and published literature.
Member of Hintsa Science Board
Olivier is a neuroscientist and a strategist with more than 15 years of experience advising global companies and coaching top executives. Building on his research in coordination dynamics and embodied decision-making, he uses portable neurotechnologies and biometric measures to design evidence-informed behavior change and performance improvement strategies. Olivier is a Professor of Behavioral and Brain Sciences. He was successively named Young Global Leader, Head of Global Strategy in Health and Healthcare and Member of the Executive Committee at the World Economic Forum. Olivier is a judo black belt and also competed in several other martial arts.
Nutritionist, Member of Hintsa Science Team
Helene Patounas is a nutritionist passionate about health and performance. Her approach to nutrition is science-based, integrating the disciplines of personalised nutrition, nutritional therapy and functional medicine. Helene holds a Master's degree in Personalised Nutrition, and a first class degree in Nutritional Therapy. She is also a member of the Royal Society of Medicine. Helene was awarded a distinction for her pioneering piece of research: 'Optimising Human Performance through Personalised Nutrition' which she carried out in association with a Formula 1 Team.
Business Development Director
Pekka is in charge of the key accounts and business development of Hintsa Performance in the Nordics & UK area. In addition, he is experienced in helping people tune their ways of working so that they get more done and still maintain a high energy level. In 2011, Pekka started a company, 925 Design, which specialises in building smart habits in organisations. From 1991 up until the founding of 925 Design, Pekka held a variety of executive roles in Nokia. He joined Hintsa Performance in 2015.
Mia has a degree in psychiatric nursing with years of experience in dealing with holistic wellbeing, mental resourcing and keeping the core in balance, both in professional and personal life. She is a former olympic athlete and holds the Finnish record in hammer throw. After her career in sports she has also worked in sales and marketing roles in the business world. In her free time Mia loves to spend time with her modern family of a daughter, a husband and two kids from his previous relationship.
Jussi co-founded HeiaHeia.com in 2008, and after its merger with Hintsa Performance, continues as the CEO of the new company. Jussi is a serial entrepreneur who has co-founded two international technology companies and held executive positions at two others, in businesses from mobile email and messaging to social network analytics. Jussi holds a Master's Degree in Technology from the Helsinki University of Technology. In his free time, Jussi likes outdoor activities like cross-country skiing, running and hiking.
Senior Performance Coach
Pyry has been part of the Hintsa team since 2014, currently working as a full-time performance coach for motorsport clients. Pyry started his coaching career as a personal trainer and youth athlete consultant. Before joining Hintsa he was the Head of Operations in a sport and wellbeing company based in Seinäjoki, Finland. Pyry is a passionate sportsman with a background in ice hockey. Taking part in the U-20 championships in Finland and playing in Sweden as a pro athlete are some of his top memories from his ice hockey career. Pyry feels privileged to be able to share his passion for human performance at Hintsa. The key principles of Pyry's coaching philosophy - dedication, passion, and trust in scientific evidence - go hand in hand with the Hintsa philosophy.
Mika is a performance coach with a vast amount of experience under his belt. He is currently working in Formula 3 with Niko Kari and also coaching corporate executive teams. Prior to working in Formula 3, Mika was working in Formula 1 with Nico Hülkenberg, whose victory in Le Mans 24h 2015 Mika was glad to witness as a coach. Mika graduated as a sport instructor from Pajulahti Finland in 2005. In addition, he has studied Chinese medicine and completed a degree from a massage school. Before Mika got involved in motorsports, he coached sprinters for 12 years. From 2009 to 2012 Mika worked in the Finnish Athletics Federation as a head coach of female sprinters (100–200 m). On his free time Mika likes to do lots of different sports and edit travel & sport videos.
Stuart is passionate about performance and health and making a positive impact on those he works with. Stuart completed an undergraduate degree in Human Movement Studies from the University of Queensland and a Master of Sports Science degree from Edith Cowan University in Perth. Stuart’s main background prior to working with Hintsa was working with Australian sporting teams and individuals. Additionally, he has worked extensively with physiotherapists on the long-term rehabilitation programs of patients. Since commencing with Hintsa Performance in 2010, he has predominately worked as Performance coach to Daniel Ricciardo, whilst also working with junior drivers and corporate clients.
Executive Chairman, Hintsa Performance UK Ltd
Harri joined Hintsa Performance in July 2016 as Executive Chairman to run the newly established UK business. His background is in investment banking with a 30 year career, most recently as Vice Chairman and Managing Director for Bank of America Merrill Lynch in London. Harri is a life long student of leadership and a sports enthusiast with 53 full marathons.
Business Development Director
Pauliina is a business developer with a long track record of transforming companies internally and externally. In her view, innovation and outstanding customer experience are the best sources for sustainable growth. Pauliina’s vast work experience includes various executive positions in creative industries such as marketing, advertising and service design. In 2015, she joined Hintsa Performance. Pauliina is interested in wellbeing, continuous improvement and personal growth. Outside of work you can either find her exploring the mountains around Chamonix, or in a head stand in a yoga shala.
Ville is a performance coach who started his coaching career in winter sports. However, he soon changed the untouched powder fields to the smell of burning rubber and the sound of screaming engines of F1. Since 2013, Ville has been Lewis Hamilton’s performance coach, and in 2014 and 2015 he was thrilled to witness Hamilton’s F1 World Championships. Ville has completed his bachelor degree in sports in Haaga-Helia University of Applied Sciences. He's also done several other sports-related courses all around the world and is currently in the process of completing his master's degree in coaching.
Sam is a performance coach who’s background is in running and competitive sport. He studied sport at Durham University, England. After graduating, he continued to compete, and started to focus his attention on running coaching and personal training in London. This led to a number of projects including a lot of corporate work around the London Olympics with Nike and British Airways. Following success with these projects, Sam was contacted by British driver Max Chilton as he was entering his first year of F1. As a result, Sam worked with him until Marussia F1 team folded in 2014. At the start of 2015, Sam joined Hintsa, and he is currently part of Daniel Ricciardo's performance team. On top of this role, Sam competes semi-professionally in triathlons around the world.
Anna-Marie is an accredited performance coach who has over sixteen years experience working with the British Army and supporting a variety of international projects. She is extremely passionate about encouraging others to reach for more across their lives and embeds a holistic approach into the coaching partnership. Anna-Marie has a Post-Graduate Certificate in Applied Coaching from the University of Derby and Master’s degree in Teaching from the University of Sydney. She strongly believes sleep, physical activity, nutrition and stress management are essential to optimise professional and personal performance. Outside the office Anna-Marie competes in ultra endurance events and placed second lady in “The toughest footrace on earth” the Marathon des Sables in 2015.
Moriz is a performance coach and, in addition, currently working as a product manager for a Norwegian company EVOfitness. Moriz is a versatile health and fitness professional, who is currently in the process of completing his master’s degree in sports studies and coaching in Vierumäki Sport Institute of Finland. Moriz has worked in the health and coaching industry for over 10 years, of which the past 6 years in management. In addition, Moriz has a background in teaching SAFE Education (education for licensed Personal Trainers) and in strength and conditioning coaching for ice hockey players. Moriz has been part of the Hintsa Performance team since 2012.
Member of Hintsa Science Board, BM BCh, PhD
Tommy is a medical doctor, research scientist, and performance coach who has worked with high performers and elite athletes across a wide range of disciplines. He has a PhD in physiology, and has published research in multiple fields including neuroscience, sports nutrition, and systems-based approaches to the treatment of neurological disorders, including through the use of nanomedicine. Tommy is passionate about combining up-to-date technologies with holistic lifestyle approaches to maximise performance, and prevent and reverse chronic disease.
Nora is a performance coach with a wide experience and education from the fields of sport, wellness and fitness. She competed in fitness for over 10 years, winning the Finnish Championships in 2010. Nora holds two bachelor’s degrees, one in sport and leisure management and one in business administration. Her specialties are cross-training, functional training, gymnastics and swimming. In 2014 she became an owner of a cross-training and bodyweight center in Helsinki, and in 2015 she joined Hintsa Performance.
Co-Founder, Executive Chairman of the Board
Juha joined Hintsa Performance as a Partner and CEO in 2014. Juha is a business leader, who believes that the main ingredients of a sustainable and successful business are a great organisational culture and people who focus on customer success and products. Juha has a Master of Science (Eng.) degree from the Helsinki University of Technology. Prior to Hintsa Performance, Juha held the position of Executive Vice President, Human Resources at Nokia. Before this, he worked at Nokia in multiple general manager and executive roles. Additionally, Juha has had multiple positions of trust in business and in non-profit associations. On his free time he enjoys reading and outdoor activities.
