Marika Nevalainen had just taken a business unit leader role at Deloitte. Her large expert team operated across multiple time zones. Constant pressure, mental load, 24/7 availability.

Turning individual performance into a team-wide operating model

The work started with physical performance and learning to prioritise herself, but quickly evolved into something far more comprehensive.

It became clear that personal and work life aren’t competing – they support each other. Understanding recovery and its different phases enabled more effective stress management and better leadership.

“When I’m well, it shows for my clients and my team. I perform better, and it shows at home too.”

The biggest breakthrough came when Marika applied this thinking to her team.

“Hintsa coaching shifted my perspective from reacting to problems to understanding root causes and how we could support the team more effectively.”

Together, they identified high-demand periods and created shared ground rules. Times when the team moved in sync. On Fridays, they stopped work together to protect recovery. Removing the expectation of constant availability became the most significant change.

The results followed. The following year, the team delivered two weeks ahead of deadline, with significantly less overtime and consistently high energy throughout.
