1 October 2019 – Hintsa Performance announced today that it has acquired the business of wellbeing technology company, Fifth Corner Inc. The acquisition will provide more comprehensive coaching services for Hintsa’s corporate clients, addressing the pressure, stress and burnout related challenges of modern working life. The acquisition also represents a crucial component in the next phase of development in Hintsa’s coaching services. Hintsa’s digital tools, combined with Fifth Corner Inc.’s vast library of content and personalised micro-actions, provide the basis for offering high-impact services to address stress and mental wellbeing challenges across entire organisations.
“Burnouts are avoidable occupational accidents,” says Annastiina Hintsa, the CEO of Hintsa Performance. “Hintsa’s acquisition of Fifth Corner Inc. compliments our existing services with a suite of new tools to support mental wellbeing, and enhances our role as a strategic partner for our clients, as they seek to pre-empt and address mental wellbeing challenges in their companies.”
Hintsa Performance has provided personalised coaching services for sustainable high performance, for over 20 years. Hintsa’s science-based methods, pioneered by the company’s founder Dr Aki Hintsa, and refined by their application in the world’s most challenging environments, have secured the company’s position as a global leader in its field. Hintsa’s coaching services are trusted by clients ranging from Formula 1 drivers and teams to the world’s leading companies.
Founded in 2014, Fifth Corner Inc. is a wellbeing technology company. Fifth Corner Inc. develops digital, science-based tools, equipping people to create new routines for better balance and improved performance. In addition to coaching programmes, Fifth Corner Inc. has developed digital tools and content to enable coaches to focus on what they do best: providing human support. While initially aimed at consumers, the YOU-service found its core clientele amongst knowledge work companies, occupational health care and insurance providers, including Mehiläinen, Keva and Nestlé.
Stress and exhaustion are part of a global epidemic that is compromising workplace wellbeing – and many companies need help
Almost one-third of employees in Europe and the United States are affected by stress at work. The costs associated with work-related stress, including reduced work performance, absenteeism and staff turnover, may represent up to 3% to 4% gross national product .
The results of Hintsa’s global survey comprising over 100,000 respondents from 160 different countries, highlight some of the critical challenges in today’s workforce. More than half of the respondents indicated that they don’t get enough sleep. Employees feel that they are unable to recover sufficiently at the end of each day. Only one third reported that they sleep more than 7 hours. Most employees feel that their work is fragmented, as a result of distractions. 47% of respondents in senior management positions suggest that they are unable to work in a focused way and report constantly jumping from one task to the next.
“Hintsa Performance has done a stellar job in highlighting the importance of mental wellbeing in the workplace, in executive teams – and the imperative to take action. We are super excited to continue this work as part of Hintsa’s team,” says Nelli Såger, CEO, Fifth Corner Inc.
Annastiina Hintsa follows in her father’s footsteps to lead Hintsa Performance’s mission
Annastiina Hintsa will move on from her current position, where she has led the company’s corporate business, to become Hintsa Performance’s new CEO. Following the acquisition, Fifth Corner Inc.’s Nora Rosendahl will become the Chief Operating Officer of Hintsa Performance.
Under Dr Aki Hintsa, Hintsa Performance services centred on coaching Formula 1 drivers. The company retains a dominant position in the top echelon of motorsport; its customers have won an incredible 96% of podium places in the previous five Formula 1 seasons. Alongside this, Hintsa Performance continues its expansion, with an emphasis on the corporate sector, where the company has experienced 70% growth, during the first half of this year alone. Hintsa Performance believes that increasing proportions of future growth will come from integrating digitally scalable coaching services, with a human connection, to support mental wellbeing.
“The mission of our company has always been – and always will be – to help people live a better life and, consequently, perform better. It is a great honour to continue this mission with an even stronger offering,” says Annastiina Hintsa.
