Winding down for summer

Soon it is time to switch off and gather energy during a much awaited vacation time. But it may be wise to start slowing down already now.

We often consider vacation time the best time to recover. Yes, as our summer vacation time usually is a bit longer giving our mind and body time to relax and recover. However this might sometimes cause extra pressure and our vacation relaxation intentions turn into a long list of must dos, must sees. And instead of recovery we keep our performance mode on.

Of course we should spend time on doing things we love and things that give us energy. But we should also have time for just being idle. “But there is so little time and so much to do or so much to see”

Very often we enter our vacation feeling exhausted and tired. So how about starting your preparations for vacation time already now? Meaning slowing and winding down already before the first vacation day. Are there some nice activities you could do now instead of saving it all to your vacation period? Or at work taking longer breaks and giving your body time to start the recovery process earlier. Sleeping longer hours maybe? If you like heavy training and you know that during vacation time you have to scale down how about starting with the maintenance mode already now?

And to ease off returning to the office maybe start planning for the time after the vacation period by making to do lists and scheduling daily lunch breaks and other breaks into your calendar. Your brain will appreciate this.
